Harris returns to the trail as Biden recuperates

Biden’s Legacy as a Leader: What Do You Really Want to Learn About His Second Term and How to Unite Behind Him?

Asked about the scores of headlines reporting that Biden is considering whether to leave the race, his campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon told MSNBC’s Morning Joe: “You have heard from the president directly time and again. He is our nominee and he will be the president for a second term, because he is in this race to win.

Biden’s campaign chair made the case that party leaders should look at grassroots support for Biden’s candidacy and resolve their doubts about him staying in the race for a second term.

Biden, who is isolating in his beach house after getting COVID earlier this week, was not expected to do any public events on Friday. The convention will have a virtual roll call vote in early August to ensure that the party’s candidate is on the ballot by the state deadlines.

The party has gone through an excruciatingly public deliberation over the past three weeks after Biden froze up during a debate with former President Donald Trump. Top leaders in Congress have failed to publicly deny a steady drip of leaks that they’ve appealed to Biden to step aside for a younger candidate because they think he can’t win the election.

By passing the torch, he would secure his legacy as a great leader and allow us to unite behind a candidate who can best defeat Donald trump and safeguard our democracy,” he said.

Sources told NPR that more lawmakers are going to raise doubts about the president’s candidacy as they watch the convention rules committee meetings.

But, the political arm of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, BOLD PAC, endorsed Biden. “Latino voters will decide the margin of victory in competitive races up and down the ballot this cycle, from California and New Mexico to Arizona, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Nebraska,” said Snchez.

She said Biden has “the greatest respect for the leaders of our party” – referring to reports about the doubts expressed by congressional leaders and former President Barack Obama.

But O’Malley Dillon pointed to a letter now signed by 1,400 Black women leaders from across the country released this week that strongly backed Biden and urged party leaders to “stop the attacks” against him.

“We reject all efforts to disregard this fact or to circumvent the will of millions of voters” who backed Biden in the primaries, the women said in a signed copy of the letter obtained by NPR.

The campaign has seen some slippage in support since Biden’s debate but party volunteers have found interest on the ground in battleground states.

“People are not moving from Joe Biden to Donald Trump. They are asking us if he can do it. She said that the president was saying “Yes, I can”.

PROVINCETOWN, Mass./REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. — Vice President Harris was back on the campaign trail this weekend, raising money for the Biden-Harris ticket on Cape Cod while President Biden remained sidelined by a case of COVID in his beach house in Delaware.

The play on the beach town called P-Town was a play on Veeptown, where hundreds of Democrats waved fans with “P-Town” written on them.

The House Way for a New Generation: The Legacy of JD Vance, the Tenacious Prosecutor, and a Tenacious Attorney

Harris focused on former President Donald Trump’s policies that removed protections for discrimination for LGBTQ people for health care, employment, and students and his ban on transgender military service.

She said Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, “undoubtedly will be a rubber stamp for Trump’s extremist anti-LGBTQ agenda,” citing legislation he proposed that would ban gender-affirming care. That led to a shout out of “Go get ’em, Kamala!” One of the donors has sent this.

Harris has not publicly engaged in the debate, and did not mention it in her Provincetown remarks. She praised Biden, saying she was “testifying” that he fights for “everyday working Americans.”

She was called a “tenacious prosecutor” by Rep. Mark Takano on Saturday. “Joe, I respect you and adore you,” I said. But the stakes are too high to fail. It’s time to pass the torch to a new generation.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass. — who has not called for Biden to leave the race — said Harris would unite the party if Biden changes his mind, and praised her for her work on economic issues and abortion rights. “Kamala is a good person to make the case against someone who is convicted of a crime, if you’re going to run against them,” Warren said.

The COVID Survivors’ Companion to the Biden Relatives to the Occasion of the Republican National Convention

Biden did a lot of events in swing states, as well as a solo press conference and several interviews, trying to clarify his age and abilities. But that came to a halt when he tested positive for COVID last week.

His doctor said in a memo on Saturday that Biden’s symptoms are improving, though he still has a cough. The Republican National Convention ended and the Democrats are starting to ask Biden to leave.

Michael Tyler told reporters that the president would be out on the trail next week if he got the go-ahead from his doctor.
