Tim Walz at the Democratic National Convention: How Old Is Donald Trump? (Recently Updated Post-Trump Review of Biden’s Disruption)
See Jon. The Democratic National Convention started with loud cheers and went to a frenzied climax. President Biden decided to step aside in favor of Harris. Democrats, who had been telling pollsters for more than a year that they did not like their choices, have been invigorated.
Senior Democrats sought to paint a picture of unity under Harris and the chaos in the country as reproductive rights was once again a focus of the night.
Coming out to standing ovation and a sea of “Coach Walz” banners in the arena, Tim Walz went on to deliver a personal and comparatively short address to the DNC.
Let’s be done with the chase. Clinton, who turned 78 recently, stated that he was too old to gild the lily. He said he was still younger than Donald Trump.
What do we want to do next year? – Bill Clinton, Oprah and Stevie Wonder (who spoke at the Democratic National Convention on Capitol Hill)
“In 2024, we have a clear choice: ‘We The People’ versus ‘Me, Myself, and I,’” Clinton continued. The theme for Wednesday was “We The People”.
She said they are so excited they want to vote for Kamala Harris as the next president of the United States.
“The makeup of my kitchen table, the existence of my family is just one example of something that was literally impossible as recently as 25 years ago when an anxious teenager growing up in Indiana wondered if he would ever find belonging in this world,” he said.
Stevie Wonder performed, as well as comedians such as Kenan Thompson, while also giving a poem to awaken the audience in celebration of Harris. In tune with the night’s theme of freedom, Gorman spoke of the “Audacity of hope” and the importance of voting in this election.
I joined the Army at 17 years old. I wasn’t old to sign the paperwork. He said that his mom had to sign the paperwork for him because he didn’t have bone spurs.
The American Dream of a Free Child: The Last Stand against Donald Trump and the Case for the Reconciliation of Hostage-Free Families
“We must make sure we choose courage over indifference.” It is time to get up and go vote,” the singer-songwriter said. “Even though our hearts have been beaten and broken, beyond prayer I know the importance of action. It is time to understand where we are and what it takes to win.
A group of fellow Republicans pledged their support to Harris, who painted Trump as a fundamental threat to American democracy.
The crowd applauded as Duncan said that he stood here as an American despite being a Republican. An American is more interested in the future of the country than the future of Donald Trump.
Among them is Olivia Julianna, who’s not just making content but spoke Wednesday night at the convention. She toldAll Things Considered that she sees herself as an activist and doesn’t pretend to be neutral.
Planned Parenthood President Alexis McGill Johnson took the stage following speeches from several leaders of prominent advocacy groups, including one of her Planned Parenthood predecessors, Cecile Richards.
“We cannot call ourselves a free nation when women are not free,” she said, speaking in detail about the challenges faced by those seeking reproductive care and abortion access in America.
Troye was a Homeland Security and Counterterrorism adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence but left the White House in August 2020 after seeing what she said were the risks Trump’s leadership posed to the country.
Jon and Rachel Polin, the parents of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, spoke at a press conference urging a cease-fire in order to allow for the return of the remaining hostages.
Polin and Goldberg have taken to wearing a piece of tape with the number of days their son has been held captive written in marker and placed on their chest. Today it read: 320.
“Thanks, Joe”: When the First Two Months of the House of Representative Tim Walz Becomes a New Democrat
Conventions are always events that feature not just the ticket running in the current election cycle, but a chance for potential future candidates to shine, to stand out and make a name for themselves before a large audience.
The crowd of faithful in the arena in Chicago, but also to voters at home, were part of the reason that Gov. Tim Walz chose to speak at the vice president’s announcement of her running mate.
Harris was greeted with raucous applause Thursday as she took the stage. She spoke about her family, reproductive rights, the Supreme Court and the Israel-Hamas war.
Harris has roots in San Francisco, but also has a small town in Nebraska as well as a former congressman from a once-red district in Minnesota, and a football coach. Democrats have really latched onto that last piece of his resume. In his speech, he mentioned that the election is in the fourth quarter and that Democrats are not on defense, but they are driving down the field. He said that the crowd had to get across the line and those watching had to do the blocking and tackling in the election.
Whether it was Oprah or any of the other Republican speakers, Wednesday was all about appealing to undecided voters and persuadable independents.
Oprah called on everyone who was registered as an independent or undecided to vote for Harris. There will be a ballot for decency and respect in the year 2024. … Let us choose common sense over nonsense.”
Making housing more affordable, cutting the price of prescription drugs, reducing medical debt, and standing up for abortion rights were just some of the democrat ideas that he made the case for.
They were on display Wednesday night with the speeches by Buttigieg, and others like Pennsylvania Gov. and Maryland Gov.
There seemed to be a double meaning in those chants of, “Thank you, Joe.” Thank you for your actions as president and for exiting the race, but also thank you for that. Biden gave a stemwinder of a valedictory speech, but it also made clear why Democrats were nervous about his candidacy.
Political consultants would have warned her against saying it while on the campaign trail, and in the White House after, because they might have been cautious about voting for a Black man. Barack Obama’s wife has become one of the most beloved Democrats in the country. She was able to say what she did, and now she is no longer involved in electoral politics.
A lot has been made of the fact that Harris would be the first woman to be president, the first Black woman and the first South Asian in the office. That would be a major historical feat. But it’s also unusual to see a man rounding the edges of his political candidate wife, who is running for president. The only other time this kind of speech was delivered was in 2016 when Bill Clinton gave a speech for Hillary Clinton. The Clintons had an adult child with a well-known former president.
Em Hoff is less known than his family, so their story showed a lot of new stuff on a political stage. There was an example of step parenting and an interracial marriage. And remember, a significant percentage of marriages end in divorce, so millions of Americans can identify with blended families.
The table is set for the Vice President’s first name mispronunciation: What will she say when she meets Gopalan?
And now the table is set for Harris. She will be giving a speech in front of a large group of people. It’s an opportunity for her to continue the momentum that has been sparked by her candidacy. Can she deliver?
“Confusion is understandable,” Washington said on the oft-repeated mispronunciations of the vice president’s name. “Disrespect is not. So tonight, we are going to help everyone get it right.”
Former President Trump has repeatedly mispronounced Harris’ first name. At one rally in July, he said: “I couldn’t care less if I mispronounce it. I couldn’t care less.”
Harris’ younger sister, Maya Harris, one of the vice president’s closest confidants, again mentioned their mother at the DNC. She was getting emotional and wondering what Gopalan would say when her daughter accepted the Democratic Party nomination for president.
Kamala, Maya, and Emhoff: A Parent’s Perspective on What You’re Reading, How You Wanna Be, and What You Can Do
A lot of young people don’t always understand what they are feeling. No matter what, Kamala was there for me. She’s never stopped listening to me and she’s not going to stop listening to all of us.”
She said her advice means everything to her. Whether it is pursuing my passions, making an impact, or finding hope when the world doesn’t feel so hopeful. She showed me how to give my entire heart and action to be a difference maker.
The three candidates all agreed that Harris would protect LGBTQ+ rights, fight for reproductive freedom, and protect the environment as president.
In 2020 she told CNN that she wrote “Kamala and Maya’s Big Idea,” a children’s book explaining how two sisters affect change by working with the community.
Emhoff came into the spotlight in recent weeks after Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance said that Harris was a “childless cat lady,” to which Emhoff replied by saying that she wrote on social media, “I love my three parents.”
She said she could see her smiling, saying how proud she is of Kamala. She would say, “That’s enough” without missing a beat. You have work to do.
DNC Night 4: Democratic National Convention Speakers from Harris, Whitmer, Kinzinger and More — “We’re not going back”
“He spent a small fortune on full-page ads calling for the execution of five innocent young teenagers,” Sharpton said in reference to the Central Park Five, some of whom joined him on stage.
“On one side of this race is Donald Trump, a fellow New Yorker I’ve known for 40 years. In that time, only once did he agree with the position on racial issues.
She said she loved the country with all her heart. I see a nation that is poised to move forward and ready for the next step in the incredible journey that is America everywhere I go.
Gun violence, race, climate change and, of course, Donald Trump were themes of Night 4, along with “joy” and chants of “we’re not going back,” which have been throughlines of the convention.
Warren and Harris were both in the race for the presidential nomination. Harris dropped out in 2019 and Warren dropped out after a bad showing on Super Tuesday.
Following a video highlighting rising temperatures and the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act (the landmark Biden climate spending bill), Interior Secretary Deb Haaland took the stage.
The first Native American woman to hold the role focused on the environment and called on the American president to lead the world in addressing climate change. Like others at the convention, Haaland reminded the crowd that the IRA was sent to Biden’s desk because Harris cast the tie-breaking vote in the Senate.
“Kamala Harris knows us and has lived a life like ours, she has been in this world for many years,” she said. “Donald Trump doesn’t know you at all. You think he’s aware that when your car breaks you can’t get to work? No. His first word was probably ‘chauffeur.’”
Do you think he has ever had to leave the cart before checking out? Hell, you think he’s ever been to a grocery store? That’s what the chauffeur is for.”

DNC Night 4: A Democratic National Convention Speakers Addressing Racial Issues in the House of Representatives: The Case of Gabby Giffords
Kinzinger admitted in taking the stage that he was making an alliance with Democrats. But he said he was making the alliance in order “to defend truth, defend democracy and decency.”
Kinzinger spoke at the DNC on the final day and said that the former president had shattered the soul of the Republican party.
The stakes in the race were stressed in a passionate speech by Florida representative Max Frost, who argued that Harris is the best candidate to address climate change.
The 26-year-old is the first member of Generation Z to serve in Congress. Frost was elected in 2022. He has a background in organizing, first getting involved in the gun violence prevention movement after the Sandy Hook mass shooting in 2012 while he was in high school.
Following joint remarks from the loved ones of shooting victims, gun safety activist Gabby Giffords addressed the DNC crowd to recount her own experiences with gun violence.
“For five years I served in Congress from a swing district. Everybody called me a rising star,” said Giffords, who was joined onstage by her husband, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly.
Giffords served in the House of Representatives until 2012, after an assassination attempt left her with a severe brain injury. Along with Giffords, 18 other people were shot. Six were killed.

Trump’s comments on Russia: a response to a remark by M. E. Skecherich, J. R. Murdoch and A. Palatini
Among other things, he criticized Trump’s past remarks on Russia. He went after Trump for his lack of commitment to NATO and for his unwillingness to hold Russia accountable for their invasion of Ukraine.
