Joe Biden to the White House: Why Don’t I Give It All to Jonathon Biden? The Plight of the American People and the Democratic Party
President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race on Sunday following a nearly monthlong pressure campaign mounted by Democratic leaders and donors to oust him.
Harris said President Biden was putting the American people and country above everything else, and he had done that throughout his life of service. “I am honored to have the president’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination.”
Biden wrote in the letter that he would speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about his decision as the next vice president of the Democratic Party.
There is a dispute over whether Biden can just give it all to Harris, as he reported in the most recent disclosure, but Harris is also likely to benefit.
Many Democrats are calling the concession by Biden patriotic and selfless in a way to draw a contrast with Trump. This would be a hard decision for any president, especially for someone who has been around as long as Biden has.
Democratic megadonors Laurene Powell Jobs and Ron Conway, among others, began discussing how Biden could be replaced before or during the Democratic National Convention, the New York Times reported.
“I have seen some emails from people in Silicon Valley who said, ‘I’m not going to donate more until I have more confidence,’” Reid Hoffman, LinkedIn founder and Biden donor, told WIRED earlier this month.
The Democrat Campaign for Reelection (1968–2016): Remembering Lyndon B. Johnson, an Industrious Hero
Pelosi, one of the most savvy political operators in the Democratic Party, appeared to lead the charge. She pays special attention to the polls and to the swing states of the Democrats who saw a decline in their numbers. Eventually, Biden got past denial to acceptance.
The Democratic candidate will face the Republican Party that is now more attractive to the populists because of their alliance with powerful Silicon Valley investors and the rise of the vice president who was once loyal to Peter Thiel.
“As a historical matter, very, very few people do this,” historian Jon Meacham, who has helped in writing speeches for Biden, including his 2023 State of the Union address, told NBC News on Sunday, “and in an era where so many of us privilege power over principle, where a lot of us would rather take than give, I think it’s a moment for the country to consider that the president has given us a lesson: that our own wishes, our own immediate desires, should not always be controlling.”
Lyndon B. Johnson did not run for reelection in 1968. Even then, LBJ made the announcement in March, not July. Like Biden, LBJ did so because the writing was on the wall. He had health concerns, and he was unpopular because of the Vietnam War.
It is possible for the numbers to decide things, whether it is polls or money. And both combined to exert a huge amount of pressure on Biden to reconsider. He was getting in trouble after the June 27 debate, as money started to dry up.
Biden said in an ABC interview that only the Lord Almighty could give him the strength to step, as polls show that his party is on the verge of losing.
The campaign has been one of the worst from the debate to the convention.
Democrats seem to be happy and excited for the first time in a long time because of this announcement. It doesn’t mean they’ll win the race, but this has injected them with much-needed enthusiasm — and money. In the hours after Biden’s withdrawal, Democrats donated $46.7 million through ActBlue as of 9 p.m. ET, the largest site that processes Democratic donations. It is the biggest day of Democratic donations since the election.
This is going to be a hyper-compressed and closely watched campaign. It will be crucial how Harris deals with the spotlight, not just because of the shortened amount of time, but also because she has to prove she’s a better messenger than Biden and reassure Democrats they’re making the right choice before next month’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
They said Biden is not qualified to run the country and that he and his son are likely corrupt, even though they have enriched themselves.
The risks for how Republicans talk about Harris are many because he’s a black woman running against two white men.
Soon after Biden announced he would not run for president, many said the country cannot have a president who is older than 83 at the end of his term.
Defending the Democratic Candidate: Sarah Biden, Amanda Shapiro, Andrew Beshear, and Josh Giffords
If someone wants to run against Harris at the convention they will need the signatures of at least 300 delegates. Biden has 3,900 delegates. It’s certainly possible someone challenges Harris, but who?
Fellow Democratic Govs. It was quickly endorsed by bothJosh andGavin that they would not challenge Harris at the convention in four weeks.
It is not known how voters will react to the Democratic shakeup. Biden and Harris were both shown to be in a statistical tie with Trump in a recent NPR/PBS News/Marist poll after Biden withdrew from the race.
She was considered a hypothetical candidate when people thought of her. Now that Harris is likely to be the actual nominee, Harris is going to face a whole new level of scrutiny.
When she ran for the Democratic nomination, she was not a very good candidate. She struggled to convey her core values, instead saying she saw herself as a problem solver. She has been caricatured as a California liberal by the right while also facing criticism from the left that she was too tough on crime as attorney general. Biden put her in charge of one of the areas he put her in charge of early on, and she struggled with messaging at times.
And she has the opportunity to rejigger the electoral map. There are risks with each of these candidates but some of the names are white, male moderates like North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.
Shapiro, 51, is a popular pick in Democratic circles because he’s generally well-liked, has handled thorny issues competently and is from Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania has seen more money in the ads than any other state. The Trump campaign knows it has to take one of the blocks out of the Blue Wall — Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. Pennsylvania was targeting the state more than any other swing state and as of Sunday morning, they were holding onto their narrow lead in the polls.
Beshear, 46, is a popular Democrat. He’s won praise from both sides of the aisle for how he’s worked with both parties, but he’s in a Republican presidential state.
Kelly is from a swing state. He’s an astronaut married to former Rep. Gabby Giffords, who was shot in 2011 at a constituent event; he’s shown he can raise a lot of money for Democrats, and he could help, to a degree, blunt Republicans’ immigration attacks since he is from a border state and has separated himself some from Biden on border policy. He isn’t from a swing state with as many delegates as Pennsylvania or North Carolina, though.
After winning election to the U.S. Senate as a 29-year-old, Biden was in public life ever since. He was not old enough to serve in the Senate. He turned 30 two weeks after his election.
He has always wanted to be president and has been told by plenty of people in his life that he couldn’t do a lot of things. Democrats credit him with saving democracy after he defeated Trump. But now, reality set in that the path forward was narrowing, or potentially nonexistent.
Up First: A Psychological Analysis of the 2016 U.S. Presidential Campaign in a Turbulent and Stiff Space-Time Scenario

It’s been a rollercoaster for U.S. politics lately. Keeping up with the headlines can feel extremely stressful, especially with the election looming in just four months. The psychologists said that it was normal for people to feel negative emotions in this political climate. It could be time for an intervention if you are feeling depressed, overwhelmed, anxious, or stressed out. Here are some strategies to help, according to psychologists:
Gov. Andy Beshear, D-Ky., seen as a potential contender, told MSNBC Monday morning that he was endorsing her candidacy. “The vice president is smart and strong which will make her a good president,” he said.
While some Democrats are advocating for an “open process” in Chicago, there seems to be little appetite for a contentious battle for the nomination to take on former President Donald Trump, and any potential challenge seemed likely to be nominal.
Many people would like to see a mini-primary. That’s the process to find out if you have the strongest candidate, whether it be Kamala or someone else, to get behind,” longtime Democrat-turned-independent Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia told CBS on Monday.
I think the Democratic Party has gone to the left. Let’s see if she comes back. A person can change their way of thinking and do it in one position. And I would like to see that direction change,” he said.
The $6,000 was not kept from Trump by Harris. A spokesperson told the Sacramento Bee in 2020 that she donated the money to a “nonprofit that advocates for civil and human rights for Central Americans” in 2015, by which point she had been reelected and was launching her bid for the Senate.
“These are not ordinary times. And this will not be an ordinary election,” Harris wrote in a solicitation text to supporters on Monday asking for $20 donations.
Sean Cooksey, the Trump-appointed chair of the Federal Election Commission, told NPR’s Morning Edition there are legitimate arguments to be made that Harris isn’t entitled to those funds.
On Sunday, Cooksey shared on X a portion of federal campaign finance regulations, which states that if a candidate is “not a candidate in the general election,” all contributions made to that candidate for the November election “shall be either returned or refunded to the contributors or redesignated… or reattributed… as appropriate.”
But he may have to consider his interpretation if the Trump campaign files a complaint with the FEC, or a request for an advisory opinion, on Biden’s efforts to hand over his campaign war chest to Harris.
There is a very short time for those complaints to be heard, roughly 100 days until the presidential election, which could lead to Democrats having their efforts challenged in court.
Trump spokesman, Jason Miller said on X thatKamala Harris would not be able to outrun the Harris-Biden record.
Specifically, Republicans are already highlighting Harris’s more liberal immigration positions and will argue that she “covered up” for Biden’s mental acuity. Chris LaCivita, a senior Trump campaign official, said that they lied about it every day.
What Has Mark Kelly Done to the Democrat Party Over the Past Four Months? A New Look at a Candidate Runaway State
Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz. has won statewide races twice and could put back on the map a state that Democrats believe had largely slipped away from Biden by the time he exited the race.
With just four weeks until the convention, Democrats will have little time to vet a potential running mate and voters won’t have to wait long to find out: the running mate is historically announced in the days prior to the convention.
“I was looking at the ones I’m running against. I’ve contributed to most of them — can you believe it?” he said. I help everybody. I’ve given to Democrats. I have given to Hillary. I have given to everyone because that was my job.
At one rally, he said, ” I have to give to them because I want something, and when I want it, I get it.” When I call, they kiss my a**.”
Trump has financially supported plenty of Democrats in his lifetime — in fact, as NPR has reported, most of his political donations went to Democrats until around 2010.
