New York GOP leader calls accusation of faking a bio for House member serious.

The Times questioned Santos over his false statements and charges of a crime against a New York black-tie immigrant

He attended a black tie event in New York with the white nationalists and right-wing conspiracy theorists.

The news of the probe, being undertaken by the US attorney’s office in the Eastern District of New York, comes as the Republican has admitted to lying about key parts of his biography. There have been questions over his wealth and loans after he made more than $700,000 for his successful campaign.

CNN contacted Santos for a comment. The Times report says Santos did not respond to repeated requests to furnish documents that would help to substantiate the claims while campaigning.

Another incoming GOP lawmaker from New York, Rep.-elect Anthony D’Esposito, condemned Santos’ false statements and called on him to “pursue a path of honesty,” although he stopped short of calling for an investigation.

Megan said she did not see any evidence for his Holocaust heritage or Ukrainian heritage in his family tree.

One claim that Santos flat-out denied was a finding from the Times that he was charged with fraud in Brazil after writing stolen checks. The New York Times states that Mr. Santos is named in the file by his full name and date of birth as well as his mother and father. The documents show that Mr. Santos confessed to the crime and was charged, but that the case remains unresolved because authorities were later unable to locate him.”

“Santos represents the kind of progress that the Left is so threatened by – a gay, Latino, immigrant and Republican who won a Biden district in overwhelming fashion by showing everyday voters that there is a better option than the broken promises and failed policies of the Democratic Party,” Murray said.

A New York Republican Party Candidate: George Santos and the Nassau County GOP Chairman Joseph Cairo Jr. Revised in response to NPR and NPR

In a statement sent to NPR, Baruch College said it had checked its records for “a George Santos, born on July 22, 1988, with a graduation year of 2010, and could not find a match.”

The New York Times first revealed last week that Santos’ biography appeared to be partly fictional. CNN confirmed the reports about his college education.

CNN has confirmed that the salary of $750,000 for this year and last at the Devolder Organization is listed on Santos’s financial disclosure.

The business was temporarily deemed inactive by the state after failing to file the required annual reports, and was registered in Florida in 2021. At least one website and a LinkedIn profile could not be found to report any clients he had served.

Santos defeated Democrat Robert Zimmerman in a newly drawn district covering parts of Queens and some nearby Long Island suburbs, flipping control to Republicans, who dominated the New York suburbs on their way to winning a House majority. The GOP mini-wave outside the city set off roiling recriminations among New York Democrats, including calls for the state party chair to step down.

It was his second race, he lost to Tom Suozzi in 2020, but he was criticized most for his attendance of the Trump rally in Washington in January of 2021, and video he claimed to have written a “nice check”

One of New York’s most influential Republicans, Nassau County GOP Chairman Joseph Cairo Jr., issued his own statement Monday, blasting Santos for “lies” that “broke the public trust.”

“Every person deserves an opportunity to ‘clear’ his/her name in the face of accusations,” Cairo added, saying he looks forward to hearing Santos’ response.

The story of a man who claimed to have lost employees in a nightclub shooting: “What do you want to do about Congressman-elect Santos?”

However, Murray offered no facts, evidence or documents to contradict the Times article, which also found Santos appears to have fabricated key details of his business career.

It’s possible for a person who grew up in a basement to rise to become a successful businessperson and then run for congress from this country.

He claimed to have lost employees in the Pulse nightclub shooting. He now says that it was four prospective employees, but he didn’t give any names or details.

“I happened to, at the time, have people that worked for me in the club,” Santos said. Four of my company’s employees were dead at the time.

In an editorial before the election, the North Shore Leader newspaper endorsed Santos’ Democratic opponent, Robert Zimmerman, and voiced skepticism about Santos’ credibility.

McCarthy has yet to comment on the controversy surrounding Santos’ biography, since he is still struggling to get the speakership.

A top Republican in Nassau County said Monday that the GOP politician who will represent New York needs to clear his name in the face of accusations.

The discrepancies raise questions for Santos as he prepares to officially take on his role as a lawmaker in January as part of the new Republican majority in the House of Representatives.

“We are very disappointed in Congressman-elect Santos,” RJC CEO Matt Brooks said in a statement. “He deceived us and misrepresented his heritage. He claimed to be a Jewish when he said it in public. He has begun his tenure in Congress on a very wrong note.”

The former candidate for the 3rd Congressional District of New York, Josh Lafazan, said Tuesday thatSantos should resign immediately.

Lafazan said he plans to write letters to the House Ethics Committee requesting an investigation and called on the attorney general’s office to look at “potential wrongdoing when it comes to campaign finance violations.”

Let’s be clear -Santos is exactly who you don’t want in office. He is a man who seemingly has no problem lying for self-aggrandizement and personal gain; a man who, even when caught, demonstrates little remorse or accountability; a man who still insists that he should be vested with significant political power.

He ran his own charity called Friends of Pets United. There is no such organization in the IRS database or the registered charities in New York state and Florida.

“I am not a criminal. In an interview with John Catsimatidis, Santos said that he has never committed a crime in any jurisdiction in the world.

“To get down to the nit and gritty, I’m not a fraud. I am not a criminal who cheated the entire country and made up a fictional character to run for Congress. I’ve been here a long time. I mean, a lot of people know me. They are aware of who I am. He said that they had done business with him.

I won’t make excuses for this, but a lot of people overstate in their resume or twist a bit. He is not saying he is not guilty.

He also told the Post that he didn’t graduate from any college or university, despite claiming he had degrees from Baruch College and New York University.

It was reported by CNN that Santos claims that his grandparents survived the Holocaust are not true and that he has conflicting information about how they came to be. A lawyer for Santos was not available to speak to CNN.

What do GOP Leaders think after a Man Who Confeered about His False Resume? CNN Perspective on How Rep.-Elect Kevin Santos (R-New York) Will Shut Down the GOP

CNN reached out to House GOP leadership and the National Republican Congressional Committee after the admissions of a man named Santos. The House GOP leadership was silent last week. Kevin McCarthy wouldn’t answer questions about what he thought about misrepresentations.

He listed specific roles he held at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup in his claim. He says that he merely worked with the companies through his actual employment at Link Bridge, and that a simple poor choice of words gave a mistaken impression.

So why should the public trust anything further he says, given his egregious pattern of lying, dissembling and then downplaying his own lies? And how should the GOP respond?

I think that the GOP will not do any of this. Party leaders have mostly stayed quiet so far. The chair of the Nassau GOP, Joe Cairo said that after a lot of hard work, Santos would be able to serve his term in Congress.

Santos admits to making up sections of his resume, but he still intends to serve in Congress.

The congressman-elect, who admitted to faking his resume, needs to resign and be thrown out of the House if he doesn’t.

The House Ethics Committee is split between Republicans and Democrats but has limited options to dole out repercussions in a case likeSantos’.

GOP Rep.-elect Nick LaLota said that if there is any need for law enforcement, a full investigation by the House ethics committee is required.

In the past, the California Republican has shown little appetite for punishing his own members for bad behavior – particularly when it comes to actions from before they were a member of Congress. McCarthy has also declined to weigh in when members are under investigation, arguing he will let the probes play out before determining how to proceed.

“This will not deter me from being an effective member of the United States Congress in the 118th session,” Santos told City & State in an interview posted Monday night.

Nassau County Republican Committee Chairman Joseph G. Cairo, Jr., said Tuesday that Santos “has broken the public trust” and “has a lot of work to do to regain the trust of voters.”

“I am deeply disappointed in Mr. Santos, and I expected more than just a blanket apology,” Cairo said in a statement. “The damage that his lies have caused to many people, especially those who have been impacted by the Holocaust, are profound.”

The Republican Jewish Coalition on Tuesday said the incoming congressman had “misrepresented his heritage” and “will not be welcome at any future RJC event.”

Rep. Dan Goldman: The Case For Congressman-elect Francisco Santos Amidst Campaign Finance Manipulations and Corrupt Practices

He downplayed the significance of his deceptions, and insisted he’ll take office next month, even though he has not responded toNPR’s repeated requests for an interview.

He now acknowledges none of that is true. Four of his employees were not dead in the massacre at the night club in Florida, as he claimed.

“He’s constitutionally entitled to his seat,” said Richard Briffault, an expert on campaign law at Columbia University, who noted the Constitution doesn’t disqualify candidates for lying.

The man acknowledged he struggled financially and at times couldn’t pay his debts. Some Democrats have called for an investigation into the source of money He stated that he contributed to his race.

“All of Mr. Santos’s disclosures must be thoroughly investigated by the Federal Election Commission…for campaign finance fraud,” said Rep.-elect Dan Goldman, a New York Democrat who won a House seat last month, in a statement.

In interviews,Santos blamed liberal media for the growing questions about his past, and he still has the support of voters in his Long Island district.

The federal probe was first reported by CBS News, a day after the district attorney’s office in Nassau County said they were looking into fabrications.

The District Attorney of Nassau County said that the fabrications and inconsistencies associated with congressman-elect Santos are stunning.

She said that residents of New York’s 3rd Congressional District need an honest and accountable representative in Congress. No one is above the law and if a crime was committed in this county, we will prosecute it.”

A soon-to-be freshman congressman from New York, who is also a Republican, said that he urged his colleague to cooperate with investigations and that the controversy was a distraction. The downplaying of action’s by Santos is making things worse.
