Reply to the Comments of Rashida Tlaib, a Democrat of Michigan, on the Israel-Hamas War, and Pope Francis on the Palestinians
Representative Rashida Tlaib, Democrat of Michigan and an outspoken voice for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war, released a video on Friday that accused President Biden of supporting the genocide of Palestinians.
A message on the screen after she speaks states that Joe Biden supported the genocide of the Palestinian people. The American people won’t forget. Biden, support a cease-fire now. Don’t count on us in 2024.
Ms. Tlaib uploaded a video that began with a clip of Mr. Biden stating that the United States is standing with Israel, before cutting to videos of Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip, children bleeding in medical tents, corpses lying in rubble, and protests in the US calling for a
Humanitarian pauses have been called for by the Biden administration to allow aid to get to civilians and more people from the Gaza Strip. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seems to have rejected that plea, saying any end to Israel’s military campaign would be contingent on the release of over 200 hostages Hamas abducted in the Oct. 7 attack.
In a follow-up post on X, formerly Twitter, Ms. Tlaib wrote, “From the river to the sea is an aspirational call for freedom, human rights, and peaceful coexistence, not death, destruction, or hate.”
Ms. Tlaib said that President Biden supports Netanyahu’s refusal to support a cease-fire due to the ethnic cleansing taking place in Gaza. “We must be laser focused on saving lives, no matter their faith or ethnicity.”
About two dozen Republicans voted against the resolution to rebuke Ms. Tlaib. The resolution accused Ms. Tlaib of engaging in antisemitic activity in connection with her accusation that Israel had committed genocide.
A group of far- left House members have signed a resolution urging the White House to call for a cease-fire in the Middle East. Senator Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, on Thursday became the first senator to call for a cease-fire if the hostages are released, and Pope Francis called for an end to the war on Sunday.
On the Campuses of Israel, Palestine, and Israel: A Correspondence with Abramson During the Fox News Spectroscope
Ross Abramson, a software engineer and recent New York University graduate, had a fairly conventional news diet until recently. He regularly checked his phone for The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. And as a Jew with an interest in Israel, he would browse a handful of outlets like The Times of Israel.
Did I watch it religiously before? No,” he said, adding that he found Fox’s reporting and commentary on Israel’s military campaign in Gaza “less antagonistic for sure” than that of other news organizations. “You don’t feel like you’re being attacked,” he said.
It’s somewhat of an improbable alliance. Jews identify as Democrats. Fox News hosts and guests promoted the populist brand of politics thatvilifies globalist corporations and wealthy liberal businessmen like George Soros.
Columbia University’s Rashid Khalidi, a pre-eminent historian of Palestinian history, readily acknowledged a rash of recent antisemitic incidents on college campuses. He drew a distinction between harassment and an intervention by the government. The forces arrayed against them are not the same as the ones against the other side. “The Patriot Act may be mobilized to shut down speech” deemed supportive of Palestinian terrorism. “That’s the difference.”
For some Jews on campus, the vituperation against Zionism has been particularly disorienting because, for years now, they’ve been trained in exquisite sensitivity to identity-based slights.
Stern occupies a unique position in this profoundly polarizing debate. He is a liberal Zionism and an expert on antisemitism, as well as being a civil libertarian who critiques the way mainstream Jewish groups try to stifle pro-Palestinian voices.
There is plenty of blame for the conflict between Israel and Palestine. There have been more attempts to remove pro-Palestinian campus speakers from the platform than pro-Israel ones according to data shared with me by The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression. But attempts to shut down pro-Israel speakers, by disinviting or disrupting them, are more likely to be successful.
State universities in Florida were ordered to shut down chapters of Students for Justice in Palestine. That is material support to terrorism, and that is not going to be respected in the state of Florida, and it must not be respected in the United States of America. According to the ADL, a national group known as American Muslims for Palestine is being investigated by Virginia’s Republican Attorney General for potentially violating Virginia’s charitable solicitation laws, including benefiting or providing support to terrorist organizations. Several Republicans have called for the revocation of the visas of pro-Palestinian student activists.
