The Secret Service has admitted to failures in the Trump shooting

There were criticisms against the agency when a person was shot and killed at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania, and two other people were wounded.

“The Secret Service, as you’ve seen reported, suggests that they have a manpower shortage. He said it was about allocation of resources. Congress will be willing to do what’s necessary, no matter how small the funding issue is.

The House task force would be expanded to include an investigation into the Sunday incident, Speaker Mike Johnson said during a conversation with the right-wing America First Policy Institute.

The House voted unanimously Friday to direct the Secret Service to give the same level of protection to the current president and vice president. Lawmakers also increased the scope of a bipartisan taskforce that is investigating the first assassination attempt to also investigate the apparent second attempt. The group of bipartisan House members is expected to file their own report in December.

Rowe met with members of Congress last week and asked them to teach counternipers better and hire more staff. The agency is asking for more money, but it’s not known how much.

The Secret Service protects sitting and former presidents, their families, major party nominees, visiting foreign heads of state, and others. There are currently 36 people under protection, including President Biden’s family, and former President Barack Obama and his wife.

Rowe told a news conference on Monday that after the Pennsylvania shooting he ordered a paradigm shift of being more proactive than reactive. But, he said, the organization needs help.

The Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General in July launched its own review into the Secret Service’s process for securing the Trump rally.

Cheatle was slammed by lawmakers for its response to that shooting, including failures to communicate with local law enforcement officials before and during the rally, and it’s lack of a good plan on how to secure the roof.

The Secret Service has an acting director, Ronald Rowe, who took over after Kim Cheatle quit in the midst of the attempt on Trump’s life.

The agency wants to do a zero-fail mission. The recent attempt against Trump has raised questions as to the agency’s leadership and operatives ability to do their jobs.

The agency moved from the Treasury Department to the Department of Homeland Security following the 2001 attacks on the US.

In the years since, the agency has been at the forefront of a number of history-altering events in U.S. politics, including the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and serious attempts on the lives of Presidents Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan.

The agency was founded in 1865 to fight counterfeiting of the U.S. currency following the Civil War. Ironically, President Abraham Lincoln signed approval to start the agency on the same day he was shot.

Trump praised Secret Service agents for their work in keeping him safe, in a Monday interview he posted on the social media platform X.

This time, the man, armed with a semiautomatic rifle, was thwarted when an agent saw the barrel of the man’s gun sticking out through the bushes as the former president played golf. The agent opened fire on the armed man, but he did not fire back.

The Secret Service acknowledges that there were failures that lead to the shooting of former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania.

“It’s important that we hold ourselves to account for the failures of July 13 and that we use the lessons learned to make sure that we do not have another failure like this again,” Ronald Rowe, the acting director of the Secret Service, told reporters.

Row cited “complacency” from other agents, as well as over-reliance on mobile devices and flaws in advance planning. He said employees would be held accountable, but did not give any details, and he reiterated that he did not ask anyone to resign.

Rowe says that the former president has had more robust security than any previous president. The security was increased after the July 13 shooting.

Rowe said that based on information he had about the second incident, “I’d say that situation was managed according to our training.” That included the young Secret Service agent taking swift action, reporting shots he fired at the gunman, and communicating via radio.
