The Teamsters will no longer endorse a presidential candidate

The Teamsters: The First Presidency of a White House, and a No-Go Theorem for the Future of the United States

The most important presidential election in the history of the United States is going to be missed, and one of the major unions is saying they’re going to sit out. There’s something about that picture that doesn’t quite make sense,” Shaiken said.

The announcement is a big blow to Vice President Kamala Harris, who was scheduled to speak at a meeting with the organization on Monday. The internal, electronic poll released by the union showed that many of the members were in favor of Trump. A phone survey shows that 42% of the members support Trump, compared to 26% for Harris.

Prior to this cycle, the Teamsters had endorsed every Democratic presidential nominee since Bill Clinton. O’Brien was the first president of the Teamsters to speak at a Republican convention when he gave a speech in July.

Both Democrats and Republicans have found that union workers are key to their election success in states like Pennsylvania, Michigan and Nevada. Liz Shuler says one in five swing states have a union worker as a voter.

The Teamsters Aren’t There: The UAW Endorsement After Musk and Trump Goes on Torsion is Economic Terrorism

Trump told Musk to say, “That’s OK, you’re all gone,” after they went on strike. Those comments prompted the United Auto Workers to file federal labor charges against Trump and Musk. In a statement to Politico, O’Brien said “firing workers for organizing, striking, and exercising their rights as Americans is economic terrorism.”

O’Brien urged the Republicans to protect the rights of workers, as well as adopt a labor-friendly agenda. Less than a month later, though, Trump praised Tesla CEO Elon Musk for threatening to fire striking workers.

“The Teamsters are not interested if you have a D, R, or an I next to your name.,” O’Brien said during his primetime RNC remarks. “What are you doing to help American workers?” He went on to praise former President Trump as “a candidate who is not afraid of hearing from new, loud, and often critical voices,” and “one tough S.O.B.” in light of the July 13 attempt on his life at a Butler, Pa. rally.

“As the vice president told the Teamsters on Monday, when she is elected president, she will look out for the Teamsters rank-and-file no matter what — because they always have been and always will be the people she fights for,” Hitt added.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is not endorsing a candidate for president, in a move that breaks with decades of Teamsters precedent and sets them apart from other major labor unions.

Why Teamsters won’t endorse a candidate for 2024. And, how to avoid credit card debt: A first look with the Government Accountability Office

Morning Edition got a look at the defense equipment production contributes to northeastern Pennsylvania’s economy during a visit to the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant. The plant’s development of artillery rounds has ramped up since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Lackawassee, once a hub for coal mining and smaller American manufacturing, now relies on defense installations for good, high-paying jobs. Keeping up with Ukranian needs can be difficult.

Falling behind on credit card bills is more common than you might think, especially when the ins and outs of how they work can be confusing. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York states that people under the age of 30 and lower-income families are most likely to have a maxed credit limit. This puts them at a greater risk of missing a payment. John Kiernan, managing editor at the personal finance website WalletHub, says there are ways to keep your bills under control.

Black girls face more discipline and severe punishment, like expulsion, in public schools than girls of other racial backgrounds, according to a report shared exclusively with NPR by the Government Accountability Office. The report takes just over a year and a half to complete, and it provides the first-of-its kind snapshot of the differences that Black girls face in school discipline. Some of the factors that tied into the increased discipline include school poverty levels, the percentage of girls facing disabilities, the number of new teachers and the presence of a school resource officer. The report will be released today by the congressional watchdog.

At least 20 people are dead and hundreds of others are wounded after a wave of walkie-talkies exploded in Lebanon yesterday. The explosions occurred barely 24 hours after the pagers exploded. In some cases, the walkie-talkies blew up during funerals for people killed during the pager explosions. An official in the US tells NPR that Israel notified Washington of the attacks on Hezbollah.
