The Reproductive Rights Defenders of the GOP: Why Do We Need More Time? Observational Aspects of Trump’s Campaign for Voting for Infertility
The President told NBC that he would back public funding or a requirement for insurance companies to cover in IVF. The procedure to treat infertility can cost tens of thousands of dollars.
We are doing this because we think that it is great. And we need great children, beautiful children in our country, we actually need them,” Trump said in the interview.
Some anti- abortion activists want to ban or restrict the procedure because of the way it involves throwing away excess embryos. Republicans, and most voters, support access to the procedure.
Trump seems to be trying to keep his image in check ahead of the election over fears about voter backlash on reproductive rights. Earlier on the campaign trail, he proudly took credit for overturning Roe v. Wade, by appointing three conservative Supreme Court justices.
In a recent NBC News interview, Trump said that he would vote in favor of abortion rights in his home state of Florida. Saying he thinks the “six week [ban] is too short,” he said he favored “more time.”
Abortion is a major issue in this election and Democrats are telling voters that if Donald Trump is elected, Republicans will restrict access to reproductive healthcare.
